DESIGN | EFFORTLESS LUXURY | INTRODUCE MINIMALUXE DESIGN INTO YOUR HOME
Words by Georgia Austin.
In a world filled with visual noise and clutter, ‘minimaluxe’ is the antidote – a design trend that blends the stripped back simplicity of minimalism with the high-end designs and materials associated with luxury. It’s a welcoming combination of minimalism minus the hard edges, glossy surfaces, and stark colour schemes, and luxury without the opulence.
At its heart, minimaluxe is curated, natural and neutral. It’s about choosing quality over quantity, and creating spaces that are soft, warm, and soothing. It takes thought and care to create the scene, but the result looks effortless. So how can you achieve this look of ‘quiet luxury’?
FOCUS ON QUALITY, NOT QUANTITY
Minimaluxe starts with paring back possessions. Instead of filling your home with unnecessary decor, take your time, edit and deliberate. Choose impeccably crafted furniture that serves a purpose, and that is elegant yet timeless, and choose only a few key accessories to accent these with. Look for the highest quality materials, aim for simple lines and classic styles that will stand the test of time, and only purchase pieces you truly love.
KEEP IT WARMLY NEUTRAL
Unlike the stark whites of minimalism or the contrasting colours used in more extravagant styles, minimaluxe is immediately restful on the eye. A gentle, earthy colour palette is key: neutrals like greige, taupe, and off-white create a soothing backdrop that will be warmed by the tones and textures of natural materials.
LEAN INTO CURVES AND SOFT FORMS
Forget clean lines and harsh edges. Minimaluxe embraces sinuous lines, soft curves and organic forms. The sweep of an archway, the graceful arc of a floor lamp, the enveloping feel of rounded sofas and armchairs – these gentle shapes are undeniably warmer and more inviting than sharp angles and straight edges.
MAX OUT TEXTURES
With the colour and clutter dialled down, texture becomes key for introducing both visual and tactile appeal. From the grain of natural hardwood to the veining in cool marble and the matt-to-the touch feel of brushed metal, every texture adds depth to the scene. Textiles too are always tactile – mix and match linen, boucle, cotton and wool to add richness and variety.
CREATE CONTRAST
The beauty of minimaluxe lies in subtly contrasting colours, shapes and materials—the rough and the polished, the raw and the refined, the light and the dark—to enhance one another and create a harmonious balance. Pair soft sheepskin rugs with concrete floors, glazed ceramics with weathered wood surfaces, or well-worn copper pots with smooth marble counters.
LET THERE BE LIGHT
Use natural light to your advantage. Keep windows unblocked, and opt for sheer curtains to let in soft, ambient light. When natural light is limited, avoid harsh overhead lights. Instead, invest in statement lighting that offers warmth, such as soft-lit floor lamps or elegant pendant lights.
MINIMAL DECOR, MAXIMUM IMPACT
Minimaluxe is not about a lack of things, but about being selective and choosing only those things that are both beautiful and useful. When you edit down your possessions, and leave space around your chosen pieces, you’ll be able to truly see and appreciate them. Less really is more— and it’s the key to creating a space that feels curated. Done well, minimaluxe creates spaces that are calm and comfortable without sacrificing elegance or sophistication.
