Tucked away from the hubbub of Seven Mile Beach but centrally located in Grand Cayman, a parcel of land at Lalique Point provided the privacy and outdoor space the Frank family desired. It became the perfect setting for them to build a home where their children could play freely and they could all socialise comfortably. The added bonus was that the lot was sold with plans for a four-bedroom main house and a separate guest house with a games room above it.
“We really liked the concept of the two separate buildings connected by a breezeway,” the owners say, “so we kept much of Trio Architecture’s original plan but adapted certain elements to make it more functional for our family’s lifestyle.”
Maximising Space and Privacy
By strategically setting the house back from the canal, they remain out of sight of passing boats, and the outdoor space afforded by the half-acre lot is maximised: the layout flows gracefully from the living area onto a wraparound porch, a large pool and cabana, and below it an expansive lawn bordered by a private ‘beach’, complete with an intimate fire pit.
The exterior aesthetic – from shady verandas and West Indian-style balcony railings to pastel blue shutters – puts a modern spin on Caribbean architecture, while inside, a soft, neutral palette of whites and natural wood tones creates a bright, calming atmosphere that sets the tone for both style and comfort.
A Designer’s Dream
For Christina Frank, an interior designer by trade and founder of Christina Noel, designing her own home was a dream project. With years of experience imagining upscale traditional residences in the Hamptons and Connecticut, she knew she did not want a contemporary or minimalist aesthetic. Although her initial vision leaned towards more vibrant hues, she ultimately chose a predominantly white palette that allowed her collection of carefully selected pieces to shine.
The result is an eclectic yet harmonious blend of traditional farmhouse warmth, Scandinavian simplicity, and beach house openness. Her curated choices – from African artwork and Turkish rugs to artisanal lighting – reflect the family’s style, creating a home that feels personal, inviting, and layered with their stories.
Spacious yet Cosy
Despite its generous size, the white shiplap walls and white oak floors lend
the house intimacy. In the great room, the traditional French doors on two sides add visual detail and bathe the space in natural light, while the exposed beams break up a large, plain expanse of ceiling and maintain a sense of cosiness.
A skilled blend of old and new equally lends the home a timeless quality: in the kitchen, open shelving, brass mesh panels in the cabinetry doors, and classic marble countertops infuse vintage charm into a practical, character-filled space.
Artistry and Craftsmanship
The owner’s appreciation for quality craftsmanship is particularly evident in her choice of tiles and light fixtures. Concrete and glazed terracotta tiles, with their textured surfaces and organic colour variations, become focal points in the bathrooms, where she extends them from the floor up one wall for a striking effect. Each lighting fixture adds a touch of whimsy and individuality, from the kitchen’s quirky brass and porcelain pendants to the delicate Japanese lantern in the stairwell, imbuing each space with its own character.
Personal and Playful
For Christina, it was essential that the home reflect the personalities and passions of the entire family. Outdoor spaces cater to everyone’s interests, with a giant chess board, in-ground trampoline, and a party-ready pool cabana and hot tub. Each child’s room is designed with their particular interests in mind, be it football, Lego, or dinosaurs, ensuring that each space feels personal and playful.
The primary suite, meanwhile, is a serene escape with pitched ceilings, painted beams, and soft window treatments that diffuse the natural light streaming in through terrace doors. The all-white palette is anything but stark, thanks to the multiple textures in the bedside tables, artwork, and lamps, which enrich the space without detracting from its tranquillity.
A Sublime Sanctuary
Yet for Christina, it is the spacious primary bathroom that is her true sanctuary. Here, in addition to a huge walk-in shower, and double vanity, the choice of a roll-top bath, and a handwoven rug on the floor lend it a classic ambience. In the corner, a soft easy chair has proven to be the perfect spot to sit and find a little stillness before another busy day begins. This, she says, may be her favourite room in the whole property.
Colour, Contained
The one exception to the fresh, white palette – as requested by her husband – is the games room. This adult playroom is colour-drenched in a deep, dark blue, with a rich wood-panelled ceiling, and chrome pendant lights that look like something salvaged from an ancient ship. Complete with a bar, pool table, foosball, and gaming station, it is the perfect, moody space to unwind in style.
Designed For Evolution
Designing her own home was both challenging and liberating for Christina. “The hardest part is making choices when you have access to so many options,” she notes, “but on the other hand, you have the freedom to incorporate the ideas and elements you love and know will work, but that may be a harder sell for clients.”
The pure, pared-back palette, and considered design choices leave room for this home to evolve naturally alongside the family’s needs. And through an impeccable blend of Caribbean, beach house and farmhouse styles, this canal-side family property becomes truly timeless, exuding an effortless yet enduring charm, firmly settled in its purpose: to be a home.
